The core of eXPert SCADA system consists of the components SCADA Server (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) and HMI (Human Machine Interface).

The Scada Server node manages the dynamic process database, the calculations, general system logics and database alarms; the HMI module acts as a client in respect of the SCADA, it make requests of the data needed to update the information displayed on operator video pages.

Even alarm management is based on the request, by the client (HMI), of the current alarms situation , managed and maintained updated by SCADA node.

The main SCADA functions are:

• acquisition or data sending from remote acquisition stations (RTU, or other systems over the field network (STAR stations, PLC, programmable controllers, regulators, etc.);
• creating a dynamic database system (DBS), which contains an image, updated in real-time, of data acquired from the plant and those calculated from the node SCADA;
• managed and controlled access to system dynamic database;
• server role against HMI and any other additional stations (PC, Workstation, etc.);
• standard calculations;
• implementation of local logic on acquired data;
• alarms detection;
• alarms archiving;
• alarms logging and printing;
• phone call or SMS/e-mail sending, to alert external operators, using eXPert Remote Alarming module;
• plant devices managment;
• management of controls and set-points;
• log book printing;
• report printing;
• support functions to application programs;
• query interface to the dynamic database for integration of external systems using the network or serial lines
